For the past 2 years, I’ve hosted the “Always Wear Your Tiara” event to encourage women to embrace the essence of who they are and not allow the past to interfere with their present or their future. The women are asked to bring a picture of themselves that is placed into a frame upon arrival at the event. During the event, the women are asked to speak positive words of encouragement to themselves while looking at their pictures. The following is an excerpt from my book, Love Yourself to Life, on Malissa Davis’ reflection on the event. I am hoping that by reading Malissa’s words you will embrace this truth: “You are Enough!”

Self-Reflection

“I watched women close their eyes, fidget in their seats, take deep breaths, and gather their thoughts before they spoke, exposing their true discomfort, before revealing the true essence of the matter.  One by one they shared and tears flowed.  Strangely enough, looking into your own eyes through a picture brings enlightenment beyond looking into a mirror.  The person in that picture has existed before in a time and space that you can remember.  The picture does not speak or move – the picture intently stares as if it’s only listening.

I watched as women gave direct stares into the deepest parts of themselves.  I watched as they revealed the secret parts of their thoughts, unmasking their disappointments, failures, and shame.  I listened to their insecurities but also their hidden dreams for their futures.

Transparent Moments

My moment came and as I stared into my own eyes, I simply smiled and I started with three words: “I AM ENOUGH.”  In all my glorious imperfections – I am enough, it has taken moments of victory, defeat, and paths of uncertainty to realize that I am sufficient for the task before me called “my life.”   I am well-equipped even when I don’t know it all.  I’m settled in that.  So in that moment I looked myself right in the eyes and gave myself a reminder that I AM ENOUGH…and I am assured that all that I don’t possess God will give me the rest along the way.  I was built for my life and so are YOU.

“YOU ARE ENOUGH.  God knew exactly where you would be at this moment and time in your life.  Understand and know it’s all God needs to fulfill your purpose.”
