Before the Ball Drops: Quieting Anxiety and Reclaiming Our Breath

Anxiety is the constant hum beneath our thoughts, urging us to stay alert, prepared, and braced for what might happen. It shows up as overthinking, tight shoulders, racing thoughts, or difficulty resting even when things are quiet. Anxiety convinces us that peace is unsafe and control is necessary. Over time, it weakens self-love by teaching us to doubt our intuition and question our worth when we cannot “hold it together.” Anxiety also steals the future by keeping us stuck in imagined outcomes that never arrive. Yet awareness changes everything.

When we slow our breathing, ground our bodies, and speak truth to our thoughts, anxiety softens. Choosing compassion over criticism helps us rebuild trust within. With support, faith, and patience, we learn that safety comes from presence, not perfection. Our future opens when we choose calm moments repeatedly, allowing peace to lead, strengthen, and guide us forward, gently, confidently.

Anxiety is different. It lives in the future. It keeps us rehearsing conversations, bracing for outcomes, and struggling to rest. Anxiety convinces us that if we stop thinking, planning, or controlling, something will fall apart. Philippians 4:6–7 gently reminds us that peace comes when we release what overwhelms us into God’s hands. Anxiety may speak loudly, but it does not get the final word.

Below is the video focused on this topic. Let’s learn to release anxiety and not allow it to control our emotions and response to the future.
