The Elephant in the Room 2017

The Elephant in the Room 2017 was more than I expected. The speakers provided attendees with realistic tools and shared their personal journeys and how their trust in God was the foundation to them making necessary transformations in order to live completely for Him.

  • Our emotions and our emotional experiences guide how we respond to situations. Knowing how to respond will significantly impact the outcome of any incident.  Other times, individuals may be holding on to past experiences which prevents them from healing and living fully in their purpose. Emmanuel Hightower shared a his heartfelt personal story from wrestling with depression, entertaining an unhealthy lifestyle, to turning his faith to God and allowing God to change his direction.

  • Let’s face it, our financial health can have a significant impact on our emotions and physical health. Melinda DeLeon provided creative tools for attendees to establish practical methods to develop a realistic budget. Attendees were able to take resources home to immediately apply and improve their financial health.

  • Focus on Food with Certified Health Coach Phillip Taylor. The foods we eat and the combination of those foods has a great impact on our weight and health status. Coach Taylor shared his personal journey of following God’s will for his life and the importance of not trying to do life by making his own decisions.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the U.S. Erica Glaze provided health promotion resources to increase awareness of breast cancer, risk factors, health screenings, and preventative measures.

A healthy emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, and spiritual balance is necessary to experience holistic living. See you at the Elephant in the Room 2018!

Don’t Dwell on the Past

In life, we all face negative things, challenges and difficulties that can throw us off course. Maybe you’ve experienced the loss of a job or a broken relationship. Maybe some negative words were spoken over you. Instead of dwelling on those things from the past, it’s important that we set our minds on things above and remember the good things that God has done in our lives. [Read more…]

I don’t look like what I went through!

Deon Kipping has a song titled “I don’t look like what I’ve been through.” When I first heard this song, I literally ran around my home. I can definitely relate to this song and maybe you can as well. We all have a past which includes various life experiences. A key point about the things of the past, present, and future is how we respond to it. We cannot change our past, but we can learn valuable lessons that will help us grow and be better prepared for other situations that will happen in our lives.

Someone said to me once “you don’t ever go through anything”. I was shocked! What did this person mean that I don’t ever go through anything. The individual further stated that I didn’t look like I ever go through anything. Well, looks can be deceiving. It was interesting that this statement was made to me during a time that I was going through a serious uneasy situation. [Read more…]

Love Yourself to Life

We’ve heard the words, “I love you to death.” This statement can have different meanings to different people.  Having been in several intimate partner violence (also known as domestic violence) relationships and almost loved to death, I do not particularly care for the statement. I would rather be LOVED to LIFE! When we love ourselves and others to life, we add to the essence of our lives and others.

“Having been in several abusive relationships, I speak from experience in knowing that it is hard for some women to break from the cycle of abuse. I knew it wasn’t normal and didn’t have the strength to walk away from the relationship. Each time I left, I somehow found my way back into something that was not good for me.

I’ve been stabbed in the arm, had a broken nose, choked to near death, and had a hot iron placed against my left leg which is now a permanent reminder of an abusive past. I have lost a baby as a result of physical and emotional abuse. Throughout all of this, God kept me, spared my life, and removed me from the relationships.  [Read more…]

Who Said…“You will never be good enough?”

The “About Us” page interestingly begins with: Who Said…“You will never be good enough. Nobody wants you. Who do you think you are? You’ll never amount to anything. Your past will always be here to remind you of the person you used to be. Nobody is going to agree to your idea. You’ll never be successful. You’re useless.”

Whether these words are spoken to someone as a child or as an adult, the words can have a lasting impact. Words definitely have power and can be used to tear down or build each other up. For years, I was plagued with negativity as a result of words that were spoken to me. I believed every negative word and learned to put on a good “act” that everything was fine. [Read more…]
