Why Strong Doesn’t Mean Silent

As women, we often find ourselves donning the metaphorical cape—the symbol of strength, resilience, and unwavering support for those around us. We’re taught to be pillars, to shoulder burdens, and to stand tall in the face of adversity. Yet, in this pursuit of strength, we sometimes forget that being strong doesn’t mean remaining silent. Our voices are powerful instruments of change, healing, and empowerment.

Redefining Strength

Strength isn’t merely about enduring in silence; it’s about acknowledging our feelings, expressing our thoughts, and advocating for ourselves and others. The Bible offers numerous examples of women who exemplified strength through their voices and actions. One such figure is Deborah, a prophetess and judge who led Israel with wisdom and courage. Her story reminds us that leadership and strength often require speaking out and taking action.

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” — Proverbs 31:26

The Biblical Call to Speak

Throughout Scripture, women are called to be active participants in God’s work, not passive observers. In Acts 2:17, it is prophesied that in the last days, God will pour out His Spirit on all people, and “your sons and daughters will prophesy.” This isn’t a call to silence but an invitation to speak, share, and lead.

Moreover, the Apostle Paul acknowledges the contributions of women in his ministry. In Romans 16, he commends Phoebe, a deacon, and Junia, noted among the apostles, highlighting their significant roles in the early church. These examples affirm that our voices and leadership are integral to God’s plan.

Breaking the Silence

Embracing our voice is an act of faith and obedience. When we speak up, we honor the gifts God has bestowed upon us. However, societal norms and even certain interpretations of Scripture have attempted to mute women’s voices, relegating us to the background. It’s essential to challenge these constraints and step into the fullness of our calling.

Finding Our Voice Together

Supporting each other in finding and using our voices amplifies our collective strength. Communities that encourage open dialogue, mutual respect, and shared leadership create environments where women can thrive. Engaging with resources that uplift and empower is crucial.

Platforms such as  Women of Faith provide spaces for women to connect, share, and grow in their spiritual journeys, reinforcing the power of communal support.

Practical Steps to Embrace Our Voice

Acknowledge Our Worth: Recognize that our voices matter and that we are worthy of being heard. This acknowledgment starts with understanding our identity in Christ and the unique purposes He has for each of us.

Educate Ourselves: Equip ourselves with knowledge about our rights, our faith, and the issues that matter to us. Education empowers us to speak confidently and advocate effectively.

Engage in Community: Join groups and communities that encourage open dialogue and support women’s leadership. Whether through church groups, community organizations, or online forums, connecting with others amplifies our impact.

Practice Courage: Start by speaking in small settings and gradually move to larger platforms. Each step builds our confidence and reinforces the importance of our contributions.

Support Other Women: Lift each other up by listening, encouraging, and advocating for fellow women. A supportive network strengthens our collective voice.

Taking off the cape doesn’t mean abandoning our strength; it means redefining it. True strength lies in authenticity, vulnerability, and the courage to speak our truth. As we embrace our voices, we not only empower ourselves but also pave the way for future generations of women to lead, speak, and serve boldly.
