Feeling unsupported or isolated can be incredibly challenging, especially when you’re longing for meaningful connections. I understand this deeply. In 2021, I moved to Florida with hopes of starting fresh. Yet, even now, I find myself without a true sense of community. As I pray and seek God’s guidance, I’m planning to move and build a foundation again in April 2025. The process has been humbling and sometimes lonely, but it has also taught me the importance of being intentional about building relationships.
Proverbs 17:17 reminds us, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” This verse speaks to the power of loving and supportive relationships—something we all need, especially when we feel alone.
What Can We do to Build Loving Relationships?
Send Encouraging Notes or Messages
I love mailing cards without notice to friends with the hope that it brightens their day. Who wants to always receive bills and junk mail all the time? Nobody! Reaching out to others with a simple note or message can go a long way in nurturing relationships. Whether it’s a handwritten card, an email, or a thoughtful text, take a moment to share an uplifting message with someone. This small gesture can strengthen bonds and remind both you and the recipient of the love that exists in your connections.
Host a Simple Gathering
Consider inviting a few people over for a casual get-together. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate—a coffee chat, a potluck dinner, or even a walk in the park can create an environment for deeper connections. Sometimes, just being in the same space allows conversations and relationships to blossom.
Volunteer for a Cause You’re Passionate About
Volunteering not only allows you to give back but also puts you in contact with others who share your values. Working together for a common purpose can naturally lead to supportive relationships. Plus, it shifts the focus from your own feelings of isolation to the impact you can have on others.
Practice the Art of Active Listening
Often, the strongest relationships are built not by what we say, but by how well we listen. When someone shares with you, give them your full attention. Show empathy and understanding. This deep level of engagement fosters trust and strengthens bonds, making others feel valued and supported.
As I continue to pray and wait on God for direction, I remind myself that relationships are a vital part of our lives. Even when we feel isolated, we have the power to create meaningful connections through intentional actions. Proverbs 17:17 encourages us to be that loving friend who stands by others, and in doing so, we’ll find that we’re not alone.
The future is bright, not just for me, but for all of us. We can build loving and supportive relationships that bring joy and strength to our lives. Let’s embrace the opportunities around us, and trust that God is guiding us to the right people and places.
