The Elephant in the Room 2016: Overcoming Depression & Domestic Violence was event to discuss topics that are often avoided, but necessary. There are several truths about depression, domestic violence, and suicidal ideations: these negatives are not specific to a person’s 1) Age 2) Socioeconomic Status 3) Gender 4) Race or 5) Educational Level. One thing is for sure: these are common occurrences among many people and it is time to become empowered to overcome and heal. If neither of these negative issues have not happened to you, it is important to be able to recognize if a family member or friend is quietly suffering with one of these truths. We are our brother’s and sister’s keeper. Speakers shared personal journeys, information on counseling, and the importance of avoiding an identity crisis.
